Good steak deserves good wine, and the list at James St has been built with exactly that pairing in mind.

Since revamping its bar area, the restaurant has developed a larger, more established wine offering to sit alongside the charcoal grill menu, giving guests a genuinely global selection rather than a handful of safe, predictable bottles by the glass.

A global list, chosen to match the grill

The wine list at James St ranges across classic and lesser-known regions, put together to complement everything coming off the charcoal grill - from a simply seasoned sirloin to a whole fish or a sharing Chateaubriand. Reds built for grilled meat sit alongside whites and something lighter for anyone starting with crab on toast or crispy squid, and the list is regularly reviewed so it keeps pace with the seasonal changes in the kitchen.

Whether you know exactly what you want or you'd rather be guided, there's enough range on the list to suit both approaches.

Expert pairings on request

Not every guest wants to work through a wine list alone, and the team at James St is happy to help.

Expert pairings are available on request, matching specific dishes to specific bottles or glasses, which is particularly useful for anyone ordering a tasting-style spread across a shared table, or simply wanting the best possible match for their main course without second-guessing the choice themselves.

Beyond wine: cocktails and whiskey

The wine list sits within a wider drinks offering that reflects the same care.

An extensive cocktail menu runs alongside a considered spirits list, and James St's Irish whiskey collection is a genuine point of pride, with the whole Bushmills range available to taste. Locally produced beer, cider and gin also take pride of place on the bar, so the drinks list is every bit as rooted in Northern Ireland as the food.

Wine for sharing and celebrating

For guests taking part in the Sharing Steak & Wine offer - a Chateaubriand or Tomahawk to share with a bottle of house wine - the list has been chosen with that format specifically in mind, making it easy to pick a bottle that works across a full sharing meal rather than a single course.

It's a similar approach for larger tables and private dining bookings, where the team can recommend wines by the bottle to suit a whole group rather than individual glasses.

Viewing the full list

The complete wine and drinks list is available to view alongside the food menus, and the team is on hand in the restaurant to talk through recommendations in more detail.
